Squirrel Removal Services for Dallas Homes
Our squirrel removal service starts with an inspection of the attic and the roofline. The technician finds each way in and checks for babies in the nest, since a litter changes how and when the squirrels come out.
You get the price after the inspection. No door is fitted and no hole is sealed until you say yes.
Then one-way doors let the squirrels out, and once they are gone, every gap is closed with metal. You also get it all in writing: each way in we found, what closed it and what we cleaned out of the attic.
We answer the phone 24/7, weekends included.
How We Get Squirrels Out, Step by Step
-
1
Tell us what you hear
We ask when the sounds come and above which room, and whether you have seen a squirrel at the roof. Mention any pets, too.
-
2
Check the attic and the roofline
In the attic, the technician looks for the nest and checks it for babies. Outside, the search covers the eaves and soffits, every roof vent and the chimney.
-
3
Get the price, then decide
We show you every way in we found and give you the price. The work waits for your yes.
-
4
Fit the one-way doors
A one-way door goes over each hole the squirrels are using, so they can leave but cannot get back in. A litter in the nest changes the timing.
-
5
Close every gap with metal
When no squirrel is left inside, the doors come off and each opening is sealed. Droppings and soiled insulation are cleaned out of the attic.
-
6
Get the findings in writing
Besides each hole and what closed it, the record notes any wiring the squirrels chewed.
Call (972) 573-9907 at any hour to set up the inspection.
Why Squirrels Get Into DFW Attics
Squirrels move into attics to nest and to get out of the cold. In Dallas, the ones that do are mostly fox squirrels and eastern gray squirrels.
Across North Texas, females look for nest sites from February to May. Fox squirrels usually have their young in March or April, and again in August or September. Gray squirrels usually have theirs in September or October, and again in February or March.
Between the two species, babies can be in a Dallas attic in almost any month, which is why the inspection checks for them.
From October to January, the cold brings more squirrels in, through gaps in fascia boards, attic vents and the joints where roof sections meet.
Squirrels usually get in from the roof, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension says, especially where tree limbs reach over the roofline or a vent has no proper screen. They also chew their way in, often above a gutter or where a dormer meets the roof.
Getting Them Out, Then Sealing the Roofline
Squirrel removal in an attic is done by exclusion: the squirrels are let out, then kept out. No poison or fumigant is registered for tree squirrels in Texas, so a squirrel exterminator here works with one-way doors and metal instead.
The one-way door goes over the active hole. A squirrel can push out through it but cannot push back in. It is the humane way to remove squirrels, because they leave unhurt and none is shut in the attic.
Trapping squirrels in the attic is the backup. A one- or two-door cage trap goes in when there are young in the nest or a squirrel will not use the door. Fox and gray squirrels are game animals in Texas, and under state rules a trapped one is released within 24 hours, at a site whose owner agreed in writing.
Once they are gone, each opening is closed. A squirrel gnaws a new hole right beside one that was sealed, so every patch is made of something it cannot chew:
- Chewed holes in the fascia or soffit. Sheet-metal flashing covers the hole and the wood around it.
- Roof and attic vents. Hardware cloth goes across each one, so air still moves through.
- Gaps above gutters and at dormers. Steel mesh is packed in and held with sealant.
- Limbs over the roof. Texas A&M AgriLife advises cutting them back at least 8 to 10 feet from it, and the technician points out the ones that need it.
Signs of Squirrels in the Attic
Squirrels are active by day, and they leave these signs:
- Running, scratching or gnawing above the ceiling during the day.
- A chewed hole at the roofline, with tooth marks, paw prints or dark grease stains around it.
- A squirrel going in and out at the eaves.
- Droppings, torn insulation or a nest in the attic.
- A bad smell, or a water stain on a ceiling below the attic.
Running, squealing and gnawing at night generally means rats instead, which our rat control covers.
Leave the hole as it is, and call (972) 573-9907 to tell us which room the sounds are above.
Squirrel Pest Control Across Dallas–Fort Worth
DFW Pest Guard is based in Dallas and covers four counties: Dallas, Collin, Tarrant and Denton. That takes in Fort Worth and the suburbs between the two cities.
Our squirrel pest control is the same in Plano or Arlington as in Dallas, down to the metal on the roofline. We work on homes only, not shops or offices.
The towns we cover are listed on the service areas page. To book an inspection at your address, call (972) 573-9907.
Questions About Squirrels
What will it cost?
The inspection sets the price. What squirrel removal costs depends on how many holes need metal and how much of the attic needs cleaning. One squirrel in a chimney is a smaller job than a family in the attic with gaps along the roofline.
How long does it take?
More than one visit. The doors stay up until the last squirrel has left, and only then is the roofline sealed. Babies in the nest add time.
Are squirrels dangerous to my family or pets?
The rabies risk is low: the Texas Department of State Health Services lists squirrels, like mice and rats, in its low-risk group. Any bite to a person must still be reported to the local rabies control authority, so keep children and pets away from a squirrel indoors. In the attic, the harm is to the house, since squirrels gnaw electrical wiring and damage insulation.
Can I seal the hole myself, or do I need an exterminator?
Not while a squirrel is inside, because it will gnaw a new hole beside your patch. Getting every one out takes one-way doors or a cage trap, and the holes are often high on the roofline. Professional squirrel removal gets the squirrels out first and puts the metal on after.
What if it rains?
The doors stay up through the rain. Sealing is ladder and roof work, so a wet day moves it to a dry one.
What should I do before the visit?
Clear the way to the attic, whether that is a closet shelf under the hatch or the garage floor under the pull-down stairs. If you have seen where a squirrel goes in, note the spot. Keep pets indoors while the ladder is up.
Squirrels out, the roofline closed. One call starts it.
